Office for the day...

So grateful to have had this backdrop as my office yesterday. Sometimes when you expect the sunshine, the grey can show you something even better... Something exciting happened here and I look forward to releasing the images soon! 'Tis the season

It's wedding season and one of my favorite things about the season and the celebration is the attention to detail. The details represent the stories, love and journey of the couple and capturing those pieces of their puzzle is a beautiful thing.

The dress...

The cake...

And even the glam. Here, the adornments through which the bride will take it all in; her love, her family, friends and her future.

The Anita Claire Project honors the bond between mothers and daughters. The mothers and daughters honored in my project come from all walks of life and all circumstances; the good, the challenging, worldwide. As my project is ongoing and continues to grow, I recently outlined the types of mothers I am seeking to photograph and interview. I've been asked, several times, if I were to feature celebrities, who would I want to feature? Well, all of the mothers and daughters in my project are on equal ground. They come from various backgrounds, professions and circumstances, and all of them share the honorable titles of Mother and Daughter. I do have a celebrity wish list. It contains countless names. Today, I am featuring 10 of those names, and while their paths happen to have them in the public eye, it is their mother/daughter bonds I'd love to explore closer. Here they are, in no particular order:

  1. First Lady Michelle Obama, First Grandmother Marian Robinson, and daughters Sasha and Malia
  2. Priscilla Chan and daughter Maxima (Max)
  3. Tamera Mowry-Housley and daughter Ariah
  4. Holly Robison Peete, mother Dolores and daughter Ryan
  5. Ellen Degeneres and mother Betty
  6. Beyoncé, mother Tina, sister Solange and daughter Blue Ivy
  7. Jessica Alba and daughters Honor and Haven
  8. Arianna Huffington and daughters Isabella and Christina
  9. Rashida Jones and mother Peggy
  10. Liya Kebede and daughter Raee

The future, mirrored

The quiet moment before the wedding ceremony; the thoughts, the prayers, the wishes, the hopes. The future, mirrored. The beauty that comes along with that moment, those moments, cannot be put into words. There are no words, and yet the image says so much. It's an honor to be a part of the prep time before a wedding ceremony. Running between the bride and groom's prep rooms allows for an insider's view to an unspoken and calm excitement. The sense is that there is an undercurrent of anticipation while the busyness of getting ready swirls around them. My feeling? An undeniable bond connecting two people who continued to communicate, through their hearts, amid the excitement.

Filling in the gaps

Photographing a wedding can get chaotic - the schedules, the non-schedules, the impromptu meetings, the misplaced props, and so much more - especially when it’s a destination wedding. I thrive on the impromptu and love to capture the candid, and shooting a destination wedding in Puerto Rico last year awarded that opportunity. While capturing the structured and planned definitely has its place, I love filling in the gaps. There are times in between the shots you should get when the money shots are waiting. They tell the story’s sidebar. They give the bigger picture (no pun intended). They are the glue that holds it all together. Capturing these three from the bridal party post-wedding, quickly became one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. During a few minutes of down time, while the plans for the reception were being discussed, the flower girls and ring bearer leaned on a table and gazed out at the ocean; no direction, no posing, no instructions. The kids were so playful and active before and after this photo was taken, giving us more reason to believe that the emotions and meaning behind the wedding ceremony were setting in. Penny for their thoughts…
